Breaking and Entering Arrest

On Monday, June 24, 2013, the Martinsburg Police Department responded to Family Dollar located at 1319 Old Courthouse Square for an alarm.  Upon checking the business, all doors were secure, but Officer Ruffner noticed a white male inside.  Officer Ruffner tapped on the window to get the subjects attention, and the male headed towards the back of the store.  An employee arrived on scene and stated that no one should be in the store.  Officer Ruffner then entered the store and announced his presence.  Officer Fritz was staged to the rear of the store and the male fled out a back door.  Officer Fritz ordered the subject to stop, but the male continued to run.  Officer Fritz attempted to tackle the male, utilized a Taser and used physical force to try to subdue him.  The male continuously fought Officer Fritz and was grabbing for his gun.  The male was able to grab one of Officer Fritz’s magazines and attempted to hit him with it.  Officer Richmond arrived on scene and was able to assist Officer Fritz in getting the male under control.  The male was identified as Christopher Lewis.  He was charged with Breaking and Entering and Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer.
